Further details:
Castillo de Locubin is a large village of some 8,000 people with a full range of shops, bars, restaurants and banks etc. There is also a small market on Mondays in the park which is 2 minutes walk from the apartment. Frequent buses run between here and the nearest town of Alcala (pop 21,000), which is about 10Km away. Alcala is quite vibrant with a good range of quality shops and a greater variety of restaurants and bars. Market day is Tuesday. Both Castillo and Alcala are on the 'Route of the Caliphate' which is an age old Moorish route between Cordoba and Granada.

To quote - 'this route proposes an enticing adventure for the spirit between two shining stars of the fabulous legacy of Andalucia'.

I have good books on the subject. The route of Washington Irvine also passes close by. On this route, between Seville and Granada, the village of Montefrio is given good mention. A little further afield lies Alhama de Granada which is home to a famous natural hot spa which still gushes from the ground at 40 degrees celsius and was much visited centuries earlier as part of the 'european tour' by the likes of Lord Byron. At the other end of the scale we have the mountaintop village of Zuheros with its much visited prehistoric caves and restaurants with fabulous views.

The village has played host to David Beckham and the rest of the Real Madrid team. These are but a few of the places of interest within range of the village of Castillo de Locubin. There is little wonder that we have no further use for the coastal resorts.

Made very welcome by Steve & Linda. Gave us good advice about the area. The apartment was great, a real home from home. Linda cooked us a cracking meal. Will recommend the place to anyone visiting the area and thanks for everything guys. PS. Great place to visit all the famous places of Andalucia including Rhonda, Seville, Malaga, Alhambra Palace, Cordoba, Gibralter, brilliant

Mr. & Mrs. Paul Masters (Bedfordshire)   10th - 17th March 2007
We have had a wonderful time here in Castillo de Locubin. A week was not long enough. We have visited the following towns all of which were lovely and full of charm: Jaen, Alcala la Real, Alcaudette, Zuheros, Martos, Granada and the Parque de las Ciencas. Linda & Steve have been the perfect hosts, always on hand if needed. Can't wait to return again. The apartment has been perfect for our needs. It is in top condition, clean, homely and ideally situated

Aleeza & Gadi Zohar + family (Australia)   13th - 20th April 2007
Many thanks for opening your lovely home, allowing us the opportunity to discover this truly amazing part of Spain in style and comfort. While it's only been a week here we really feel we've done a lot and particularly loved the trips you suggested to the white town of Zuheros and also the the hot springs of Alhama de Granada. These trips were not just about destinations, but the drive to each was just stunning. We've visited the old city of Cordoba and also the Alhambra in Granada. We really feel at home here in this gorgeous apartment, beautifully and thoughtfully decorated. The view from the balcony has never failed to take our breath away and we have delighted in the changing colours of the surrounding mountains. We have also had some stunning sunsets that we will always treasure in our memories and on camera. We are especially grateful for your kindness in showing us the local scenery and taking the time to explain how to get to some of your favourate places. After a week on the coast in Spain and a week in the Algarve coast in Portugal, Castillo de Locubin has been a wonderful place to experience village life in Andalucia. We've delighted in going to the Monday market in the square and particularly in watching the older men gather there every evening. Thanks once again for your hospitality. We wish you luck with your renovating and house buying projects. We will send you an Email about the rest of our 2 months travels far away from our home in Melbourne, Australia.

Leon & Carol White (Winchester)     25th April - 9th May 2007
Take a superb apartment, put it in an ideal quiet location, add 2 owners who are on hand (but only when needed) and you have a perfect holiday set-up. Thankyou Steve & Linda for giving us all the above. The flamenco evening will always be remembered, as will be the meal and your company. We may not meet again but the Emails will keep us as "distant friends".

Esben Hampus Ry & Mother (Denmark)   9th May - 23rd May 2007
Within these 2 weeks we have had very many fine experiences here. We almost find this village as pictured in the Arabian film "Cinema Paradise". With it's special sort of life as observed from the balcony. And then there are all the sounds of wittering birds, barking dogs, chiming church bells and children laughing on their way back from school. Other highlights like on the (?author) Little Princess, we fully enjoyed collecting the marvellous sunsets in the evenings and later seeing the stars and the moon coming up. The apartment itself is so comfortable and elegantly decorated. When having returned to Denmark it will for us always be a wish to come back to this wonderful place. Thankyou Steve & Linda for now. PS. We have enjoyed to tour the Sierras and natural parcs of Subbetica, Sierra Sur, Nevada, Alpujarras and Cazorla. We look forward to hopefully returning at some point and will then revisit all the cultural highpoints. Thankyou for your kindness, it also contributed in making this apartment a safe and comfy home from home.

David & Diane Porter (Macclesfield)         9th - 16th June 2007
We have had a wonderful holiday here in Castillo de Locubin. The apartment is superb - stylishly, yet comfortably furnished. The locals are friendly and hospitable. Good advice given by Steve & Linda. Visited Jaen, Priego de Cordoba, Granada (Alhambra) and Zuheros - all   excellent. We can recommend 1. restaurant El Aljibe, nearest to the castle entrance in Priego and 2. a new restaurant called Dos Soles in Alcala la Real, owned by a native of Alcala but serving quality Italain/French cuisine. We dined there on four evenings. Our only complaint about our holiday was that the apartment was too comfortable and relaxing, that it was difficult to leave to go sightseeing and that 1 week was not enough (I make that 3 complaints David!!!). Would love to come back here in the near future and would highly recommend to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday in real and unspoilt Spain.

Chrissie & Geoff Twigger (Ilfracombe)       19th - 24th June 2007
Sitting on the Terrace on our last night at 12:30am - in a temperature of at least 70% - can't be bad! Having watched an amazing sunset whilst feasting on local produce (wine, prawns & bread). This a great place for exploring the area. We have driven 1,500 kilometers in 5 days but what a joy on the clear open roads. The apartment is perfect and a pleasure to come back to. Very well appointed, great location, wonderful view. Sit on the terrace, watch the sun go down, have a drink and count the stars - Heaven! Thanks loads.

Have had a great break. The apartment was fantastic. It coped brilliantly with the temperatures above 40 degrees C. We really enjoyed the evenings on the balcony, watching the sunsets and star gazing. Had good sightseeing days in Granada and Cordoba. The municipal pool in Alcala was a good trip out and also had a lovely day at the thermal pools just outside Granada. Meal of the week was at the Balcon de Adarve in Priego de Cordoba - definately worth a visit but do not arrive before 9pm. Castillo is a lovely village and we really felt we were in the real Spain. The local people have been really friendly. We will definately be back.

Lindsey & Rort Evans + family                 11th - 18th August 2007
The apartment exceeded our expectations - we very much appreciated its comforts and stylish decor. The TV and DVDs were a boon when we were unable to go out. (we all enjoyed "the long way round"). We will miss the panoramic views from the terrace - we could have sat there all day watching life go by. Although we haven't visited a lot of the sights, we achieved our aim of Granada and the Alambra Palace. We have had an enjoyable stay and will definately recommend the apartment to anyone wishing to visit the area.

Jim, Nicole & James Barton (Philadelphia USA)   2nd - 15th September 2007
We have spent a very relaxing fortnight in Steve and Linda's well appointed and centrally located apartment where we enjoyed watching British TV after 25 years of US TV. We thoroughly enjoyed our visits to nearby Alcala la Real and Priego de Cordoba as well as trips further afield to Nerja, Ronda, Granada and Seville. The Grand Mosque in Cordoba absolutely took our breath away. Evenings in the square at El Moreno's with the friendly locals put a finishing touch to a memorable vacation.

Paul Steen and party (Norway)         8th - 13th October 2007
After two days in wonderful Sevilla we arrived in Castillo de Locubin and this lovely apartment. Since then we have enjoyed every minute. After a rather cold Summer in Norway, 30 degrees on the terrace was about what we needed. We have been to Granada with Alhambra, Jaen, Alcala la Real and Valdepenas de Jaen. we both look forward to visit more towns next time. Bye for now.

Arthur, Marie & Martin Chesworth (Cheshire)   2nd - 7th November 2007
We have enjoyed staying in your beautiful apartment which has been most comfortable and very relaxing. We also were most impressed with the village and the kindness received by the locals. Everything was there for our convenience - small supermarket, no climbing, nice bars, everybody friendly, good food and drink, very comfortable beds.

Des Everett & Karina Walker     23rd - 30th October 2007
What a wonderful apartment. We arrived here having spent 10 days in a partially renovated house in Carboneras (near Almeria), which was very quirky, to arrive at this gorgeous apartment with all 'mod cons'. We have been able to visit so many places we had promised ourselves we would visit on previous trips. Jaen catherdral is amazing. The Mezquita in Cordoba cannot be missed, it is awsome. Priego de Cordoba and Alcala la Real are very pretty 'pueblo blancos' with beautiful walkways and castles. The Sierra de Cazorla is a lovely drive.
It has been lovely sitting oujt on the roof terrace in the sun , also popping down to the cafe in the park for 'tosados con queso' and 'cafe con leche' for breakfast. This is our third trip to Andalucia and the diversity of the scenery and its beauty, and that of the towns and monuments, never fails to amaze. However, we still have not visited the Alambra!! Maybe next time.
Thankyou Steve & Linda; as I said, I will be recommending this lovely apartment to anyone coming out to this area, and hopefully we will be returning ourselves in the not too distant future.

Chris & Ken Knott (Stone, Staffs) 8th - 21st November 2007
Stayed in many apartments in Spain and this is one of the nicest. Very central for visiting Cordoba, Jaen and Granada provinces. Linda & Steve are very friendly and helpful hosts and have furnished their apartment very comfortably and stylishly. The bed in the master bedroom is obviously top quality and its comfort was much appreciated. The versatile heating arrangements were also top class as was the entertainment system. Places not to be missed, besides the Alhambra, include the mosque at Cordoba, the Adarve area of Priego, the castle at Jaen etc etc. The 'menu del dia' at El Moreno in the village square is to be commended. Finally, as everyone remarks, the view from the terrace is wonderful.

Alex & Diane Rae       14th - 19th December 2007
The excellent accomodation contributed greatly to an enjoyable few days in Castillo de Locubin. Many thanks also to Steve & Linda for their help and advice while we were here.

Victoria & Paul Fairburn   26th - 31st January 2008
Great apartment with all 'mod cons', ideally located for exploring this wonderful part of Andalucia. The Alhambra is a must see and amazing in the January sunshine with spectacular views of the Sierra Nevadas. Spent the rest of our short time here house hunting so can't report on any other local attractions! The Balcon del Adarve restaurant in Priego de Cordoba (40 Kms away) is great and no need to book at this time of year. The restaurant on the square in Castillo is good for tapas. A big thankyou to Steve for being so helpful and welcoming. (Linda was in England at the time)

Michael Veggerby - Denmark   15th - 19th February 2008
It has been a great pleasure to stay here. Thanks for help. See you

What a lovely apartment. So well equiped, comfortable and well situated for visiting wonderful towns and fascinating landscapes. The view from the balcony is very special, particularly in the evening with the gorgeous sunsets. Our first visit to this part of Spain but definately not our last. We have all felt at home in this splendid apartment. I loved using the well equiped kitchen. Perhaps we might be back in 2010.

Karen Lindsey, Glasgow       10th - 14th April 2008
Thankyou for letting us use your lovely home. Ideal location within walking distance of town and with lovely views. We love Spain and can't wait until we come out here to live.

Anders & Dina Hanson, Denmark   15th - 19th April 2008
We have had an excellent time here. The view from the terrace exceeds everything. I am recommending Moclin to everyone.

Tom & Sue Jones, Staffordshire   26th April - 1st May 2008
Lovely peaceful place. Apartment lovely and the views fantastic! Wish I could take the sunsets home. Lots of place to visit within 40 minutes. Local peaople very friendly. The ols quarter in Priego de Cordoba is well worth a visit with its narrow white streets covered with geraniums and fantastic views from the miradors. Will miss the small round almond sponge cakes, a treat that I can't have at home. Recommend - El Moreno restaurant and their fillete de Aguja (plain grilled fish)

Lynda & Jim Illingsworth, Northhampton     10th - 17th May 2008
Lovely comfortable apartment. We visited Alcala la Real, Priego de Cordoba, Luque (loved it), Carcabuey, Cabra, Zuheros and lots and lots of smaller pueblos. Thanks.

Leonie Marinovich + Joey & Rina (Johannesburg SA) 6th - 10th June 2008
Thanks for the hospitality - Lovely place to stay - Great discovery.

Neil & Suzanne Booth (Bamford, Derbyshire UK) 21st - 29th June 2008
Perfect. The apartment has madev our stay in this area a wonderful treat. Tastefully decorated with a homely touch. Thank you. (Suzanne)
Hope to return next year. Lovely end to the day to sit and watch sunsets with 'fino'. Recommend - Bodega in Cabra, near bus station. (Neil)

Dennis & Maggie Remmers (Portsmouth UK) 27th July - 1st August 2008
Through the efforts of two hard working people (Steve & Linda) we are allowed to enjoy such a wonderful apartment in such a tranquil location, with spectacular views and sunsets. This holiday gave my wife and I a view of Spanish life you normally only read about. We both thought the only way to sum up the location was to quote the lyrics from 'If' by Tele Savalis - If a picture could paint a thousand words then why can't I paint this view.
Steve & Linda made us feel very welcome and hope that this is the beginning of a friendship.

Chris & Kathy Sunley (Chester UK) 1st August - 1st October 2008
Gorgeous apartment, fantastic holiday! We've had two totally relaxing months in this beautiful area of Andalucia. Castillo de Locubin is a typical rural village surrounded by beautiful hills and olive trees. The local people are very friendly and it is a great base for exploring other places such as Granada   (the Alhambra is a must) and Cordoba (amazing architecture at la Mesquita). There is so much history in this part of Andalucia and so many wonderful places to see. Nearby Alcala la Real, Priego de Cordoba and the white village of Zuheros are all interesting places to visit. Lots of good tapas bars. It has been a pleasure to stay at this lovely comfortable apartment. We have enjoyed relaxing on the terrace watching the sun going down, followed by the 'starry starry' nights. The views are stunning. Linda & Steve are wonderful hosts, so kind and helpful & knowledgeable about the area. They have helped to make our holiday special. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending this apartment to anyone who wants a tranquil relaxing holiday in an unspoilt part of Southern Spain. Thanks so much.

Carl &Jackie Vincent + Georgia & Alyssa (Sidney Australia) 1st - 28th November 2008
What a Month! We've thoroughly enjoyed our time here - relaxing, wandering the town & olive groves, drinking coffee & Anis at Moreno's, drinks at Pepe's, chocolate & churros from the stall beside the park (the servings just get bigger), roast chicken & chips from the shop behind the park and just sitting in the sun in the park or on the apartment terrace.
Further afield: Priego de Cordoba is beautiful & dinner or lunch at the Balcon del Adarve is memorable. Zuheros is very quaint with spectacular views & great walking, including the Via Verde - an easy walk to Dona Murcia. The town of Rute is worth the drive to see the museums of ham, anis and chocolate with free tastings of all. No more needs to be said about Cordoba other than look for the free street parking on this side of the river.
If you want to hire a car, check out www.carrentalgroup.com - very cheap and same price to pick up from downtown Granada as the airport.
Everyone in Castillo is so friendly we just wished our Spanish was better!
Finally, a huge thankyou to Steve & Linda for being so welcoming and helpful and for giving us a wonderful opportunity to experience life in rural Andalucia. The apartment is so comfortable it make you never want to leave. We'd love to come back one day & will definately recommend the apartment to anyone we know who is looking for a relaxing home away from home. The only negative is we now have dental bills to deal with for our 3 year old daughter who was given lolly pops, chocolate or biscuits by every shopkeeper in town!
Thanks again Steve & Linda

Jon & Elaine Ryan +   Bobby & David (Somerset UK) 14th - 21st December 2008
We've had an excellent week and thoroughly enjoyed being able to come home each night to this lovely flat. Steve & Linda have been helpful, considerate hosts and have gone the extra mile throughout our stay to make sure we had a delightful holiday. We have travelled extensively and would very much recommend - in addition to the oft repeated trips to Cordoba   and Granada - that visitors ignore off putting guidebook rostrums & explore the little villages nearby & go further afield. We particularly enjoyed the splendid renaisance architecture of Baeza & the idiosyncratic streets of Priego de Cordoba.

Mariette Lodder & Anja (Holland) 3rd - 10th January 2009
We had a lovely, though slightly chilly stay. The temperature dropped to under zero and yesterday it even snowed. The apartment is very comfortable   (and warm!). We visited quite a few sights amongst which Jaen; beautiful cathedral, castle and old quarters. The country road up north from here is very pretty (1hr up to Jaen). Today we visited Ubeda and Baeza who both have a charming city centre and many pretty Renaissance buildings. Apart from the sights mentioned by the previous visitors, we loved to go to the local market on Monday morning and the procession of the 3 Kings (Jan 5th) in Alcala. Many thanks to Steve & Linda for ensuring such a welcoming temporary home!

Mary, Roger, Jess, Joe & Callum Hughes (Australia) 17th - 23rd January 2009
We, an Australian family of 5 (including 3 teenagers) are on a 7 week European winter holiday. Week 5 has been spent here in this lovely relaxing village in Andalucia. Prior to arriving here we had experienced the snow of Germany, Austria & the freezing temperatures of Italy and the UK - so some warmer weather was much anticipated. But.....the weather was as diverse as the landscapes in Andalucia. We spent a warm sunny day with temperatures of 15 + degrees c. in Cordoba - but on our return to Castillo, a snow storm appeared & we drove home in sub zero temperatures with snow flakes falling on us - an experience for Australians! Granada was lovely with a crisp blue sky; we've visited the 'Mesquita', Zuheros, Alcala la Real and other little white villages. Steve & Linda, thankyou for your lovely apartment. It has been so very relaxing (despite the varied weather). The teenage sons said 'this place is sweet!'. Thankyou for giving your visitors all the comforts of home. Wishing you a successful year - cheers.

Barbara Burford & Co. ( UK ) 5th - 9th March 2009
Having already visited both Granada and Cordoba it has been interesting putting the area inbetween into perspective .....and very lovely countryside it is. Castles, battlements, Moorish, Renaissance, Baroque, mountains, olive groves. Couldn't visit everywhere but recommended:
* Jaen, Baeza, Ubeda
* Alcala
* Priego
* Sierra Subbetica
* Zuheros
* Caves of the bats
* Eating in Hoya de Charillo
Deserves a return visit. Thankyou Steve & Linda for letting us explore and return to such a comfortable base.

Michael & Judy Redman ( UK ) 2nd - 16th May 2009
A marvellous two weeks of unbroken sunshine and the delightful hospitality of everyone we met in the village. Many large festivals are held in Spain but a small village festival can be ever more satisfying as was the one we joined in a village close to Priego de Cordoba. So many places to mention, some famous many not and it is well worth taking a route which winds through some of the many lovely small villages. If you have time, visit Cazorla on the edge of the National Park of the same name - unforgettable. Locally, for a short walk, drive to Valdepenas de Jaen and follow the river upstream. It is no more than a mile long walk (and a mile back!) but the walk, once you leave the road, is perfect in its own way - many small waterfalls and one very very surprising one make the walk so satisfying. As for the apartment, what more can we say than we would enjoyably live full time in it. Steve & Linda were good hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them and we give them our warm regards.

Darija Marinic & Party (Croatia) 23rd - 30th May 2009
Castillo is perfect location for visiting stunning Andalucian towns. We have seen Sevilla, Jaen, Baena, Ubeda (highly recommended), Cordoba (take time to find parking space), Medinat al-Zahera (a little bit of archeology), Granada, Acala la Real and Priego de Cordoba.
Apartment is good, located close to main square and shops. Monday market is great. Easy and safe parking. Apartment is good, well equipped and comfortable. Dear Stephen, you have been a great host. Thankyou for helping us find beautiful Andalucian wall tiles. Perfect piece of Andalucia to take home. Sorry if our English is not perfect.

Fred & Jean Bryant (Southwold, Suffolk) 6th - 13th June 2009
Beautiful apartment. Spent many hours on the terrace admiring the views. Too hot in the afternoon and early evening but think that had something to do with the temperature - around the 40 degree mark. We know the area well but visited Cazorla - worth the trip - and drove through the countryside home. Local people very friendly - Diego at Morenos restaurant also. Thanks for an enjoyable stay.

Marie & Arthur Chesworth (Northwich, Cheshire) 18th - 28th June 2009
Had a wonderful time. Weather could not be better and swimming - out of this world. Thanks a lot Linda & Steve.

Phil & Jan Ottiwell (Manchester) 28th June - 5th July 2009
A comfortable well equiped apartment from which to enjoy the delights of Southern Spain. The owners - Steve & Linda - are both friendly and knowledgeable on all aspects of life in this region. Highlights that made our holiday memorable include: sunsets from the balcony, friendly people who didn´t laugh at our attempts at Spanish, towns and villages with amazing architecture. We saw lots but missed more.

Pat & Russell (Moscow, Ayrshire) 7th - 14th July 2009
Everything was as you said and better. Our guests were just as impressed as we are. A great base to tour the area of three Provinces from. All in all excellent. You both deserve a ¨best value¨ star.
